.URGES ELECTORATE TO SHUN VIOLENCE, THUGGERY
A Sociopolitical cum Cultural Organization in Owerri Zone, Imo State, Owerri Zuruezu Peoples Assembly (OZPA) has called on the people of Owerri Zone, nay Imo State to troop out in their numbers on Saturday and elect a new President of Nigeria and members of the National Assembly.
However, OZPA appealed to the Electorate to exercise this constitutional right of franchise by exhibiting peaceful conduct during, before and after the Polls.
This was disclosed by Chairman of OZPA, Prof Jude Njoku, after rising from a meeting held in Owerri, Imo State.
Prof Njoku who was flanked by Officials and Members of Owerri Zuruezu Peoples Assembly maintained that OZPA is an Organization made up of respected sons and daughters of Owerri Zone across party lines whose objective is the development, peace and unity of Owerri Zone and Imo State.
The Chairman of OZPA disclosed that it is imperative that Owerri People use the election to select Candidates of their choice in the most disciplined and civilized manner by eschewing violence and not allow anything disrupt the peace in the Zone.
“We must conduct ourselves with decorum, cast our votes peacefully, avoid trouble, remain calm, count our ballots and shun violence” the Chairman of OZPA preached.
Prof Jude Njoku, a former Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri FUTO said that Saturday remains a good opportunity for the good people of Owerri Zone to yet again elect a new set of Leaders to represent them in the National Assembly in the next four years.
“This is the reason we must all come out and vote. This is why we must also do it in the most peaceful manner and not allow political differences divide us. Owerri Zone is peace Loving”
OZPA also appealed to security Agencies to carry out their jobs diligently, commending them for the Sacrifices they have so far made in safe guarding our democracy and unity of Nigeria.
OZPA prayed that after Saturday election peace shall continue to reign in Owerri and Imo State, reminding all the Candidates to realize that in an electoral contest only one winner must emerge, while the losers should show sportsmanship by accepting defeat without resorting to acts inimical to peace.
