Less than two days to the general elections, the support base for the Candidate of National Rescue Movement, NRM, for Imo West (Orlu Zone) Senatorial seat, Chief Stephen CY Uwaezuoke has multiplied following the recent endorsement by Coalition of political Parties.
In a meeting convened yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the involved parties collapsed their structures for the NRM Candidate.
Present were respective Local Government Areas Party Executive, who affirmed their unalloyed support for Uwaezuoke.
Trumpeta gathered that following the endorsement of the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by the national Leadership of NRM in Abuja, a reciprocal approach was taken, urging the Imo State PDP to do same, by giving its full support to the NRM Senatorial Candidate for Orlu Zone.
This was even as PDP has no Senate Candidate for the February 25, 2023 polls as a result of disqualification of former candidate, Jones Onyereri by the Supreme Court.
The political Parties that are currently in consonance with the NRM and its Orlu Zone Senatorial candidate comprises, the YPP, ADC, APGA, Action Alliance, Accord Party, among others.
Earlier in his address, the State Party Chairman of YPP, Hon Victor Chidi Diala who anchored the event stated that Uwaezuoke is not a conventional politician, but a straightforward person, accountable and trustworthy in all ramification.
He described him as a sellable Candidate for the position, who has the requisite qualifications to represent Orlu Zone.
Hon Diala added that the political parties made up their mind to support the NRM Flagbearer because what the respective parties want is who will live up to expectations in agreement to party’s manifestos.
“All the political parties have manifestos but failure to go through it, and its retarded implementation becomes a problem”.
The YPP boss opined that they want to correct many ills from House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and Presidential, and its starts now.
He seized the opportunity to enlighten them on the modus operandi for voting, and expectations. They were challenged to ensure they don’t leave the polling Units even after voting, until final results transmission.
President Muhammadu Buhari was further commended for his move towards ensuring a free and fair elections as a parting gift to Nigerians.
“The change for a new Nigeria started with the electoral act, introduction of the BVAS, followed by scarcity of cash which will be so detrimental to vote buyers. These were ways God want to change the narratives.
Gone are the days when votes are in the custody of big men and corrupt politicians”.
Contributing, Barr. Nlem Ignatius, the ADC Chairman in Imo State affirmed that Uwaezuoke have two unique qualities of accessibility, and concern for humanity, stressing that as a new breed in the game of politics, he has not been stained like the old Political horses.
“If Uwaezuoke wins, the people of Orlu Zone won’t regret”, said Nlem.
In his reaction, the NRM Orlu Senatorial Candidate, Chief Stephen Uwaezuoke submitted that he deliberately chose a new party for the cause for selfless services.
Urging the electorate to vote sensibly, and not to waste their votes on candidates who do not have regard for them, he said,
“Anybody who couldn’t deliver democracy dividends shouldn’t be given the opportunity now. Such a person is a failure”.
Uwaezuoke also dismissed the notion among most Nigerians that votes don’t count. He maintained that this period, votes will count.
“If I’m elected, what is due for ndi Orlu, will come to them, no compromise of any sort.
Our survival lies in our hands. I promise to work for our own good. Give me your votes, and be rest assured of better days ahead, where unity of purpose, and development will be our portion”.
The party men and women who took turns to express their satisfaction promised to take the message home and work for the landslide victory of Uwaezuoke in Orlu Zone.
