Imo State students in the secondary schools and their parents are raizing serious alarm over the high West African Examination Council WAEC registration fees coupled with all some extortions.

Our source revealed that some school principals in Imo State are allegedly collecting extra Exam fee that is higher than what was originally stipulated by the authorities. This outrageous charges of West African Examination Council WAEC Exam fee has put many families in difficulties.

Authorities according to source directed principals of secondary schools to collect N47,000 as Exam registration fees for both NECO and WAEC but greedy principals as we gathered decided on their own to increase the money.

Report has it that a good number of Principals in Owerri zone are collecting more than N60, 000 as Exam registration fee coupled with other alleged illegal charges said to be going on now.

To make things worse for the students and their parents, WAEC in Imo State is said to have put N100,000 fine as penalty for late registration.

With this development as we gathered, many students can no longer register for the Exams anymore because of exhaubitant fees.

It was also alleged that some heartless Principals are charging N15,000 as money for the processing of students continuous assessment exercise.

When contacted on this outrageous charges and seizure of WAEC results,   officials in Owerri refused to make any comment.  The Zonal coordinator insisted that he must get clearance from the head office before saying anything to press.

It would be recalled that 261 secondary schools in Imo State were sanctioned by WAEC for alleged malpractices in Imo State during Exams. For more than 2 years the affected schools have been taking Exams without getting their results and this has dragged Imo education system back ward. WAEC had insisted that all the recognized schools should pay N500,000 each before they will get their results. Concerned Imolites are viewing WAEC action as politically masterminded to destroy Imo Education sector.
