Elections Won’t Hold In 38 Polling Units In Imo –INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headed by Professor Mahmood Yakubu has made it clear that elections may not hold in 240 polling Units, across the Federation.

The Electoral Body cited insecurity and fictitious causes as reasons such polling Units would not witness voters during the 2023 general Elections.

The INEC Boss disclosed this in a meeting with Leaders of Political Parties, yesterday (Monday).

“There are 240 Units without registered voters spread across 28 States and FCT. They range from one polling Unit to 12 polling Units in the States as FCT, except Taraba and Imo State with 34 and 38 Units respectively”.

He continued “No new registrants chose the polling units and no voter indicated interest to transfer to them during the last CVR, mainly for security reasons. This means that no election would be held in these polling Units”.

Meanwhile, the news was received with shock and disturbing countenance by Imo Electorate, who are confused over the news.

However, it has not yet be confirmed which part of Imo State the 34 Polling Units are sited.

Sources said that the Polling Units may be in Orlu zone, which has been avoided by many residents, who are running away from occasional disturbances traced in the Zone, following activities of those described as Unknown Gunmen.

Okigwe and Owerri Zones have be relatively peaceful, with sporadic mayhems, but not on the level of Orlu zone.
