Imo State Government on Tuesday 7th February, 2023, flagged off the construction of a Housing Estate tagged 3R Housing Estate, at Avu/ Umuoma Nekede communities in Owerri West Local Government Area.
Flagging off the construction, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Lady Dr. Love Ineh said Government has been trying to commence the project, but was distracted by little skirmishes in the area.
She however said the governor has directed her and all stakeholders to come, mount the billboard and commence clearing of the bush to indicate his interest to construct the Housing Estate on the land, pointing out that the official flag off was preceding the grand breaking ceremony which will be performed by the governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma in a short period.
She appreciated the people for their zeal to see to the actualization of the project, as well as the warm welcome they accorded the government team that come for the flag off.
The Commissioner said the Housing Estate is one of the governor’s cardinal programme, though it was delayed because a lot of cleaning up the government was doing in the state, including construction and rehabilitation of roads and other infrastructures which were at very high levels of dilapidation.
According to the commissioner, the Housing Estate, the first among many that will follow, will be affordable to Imolites at different categories.
Making a remark, the Sole Administrator of Owerri West Local Government Area, Hon. Victor Osigwe expressed appreciation to the governor for the project which he said will be beneficial for people of the community.
He acknowledged the passion of the governor to development of Owerri West and promised that people of the area will give maximum support towards the success of the project.
In his address, the traditional ruler of Umuoma community, Eze Maurison Eke appreciated the governor and Commissioner for bringing the developmental project to the area which he said will bring a lot of benefit for the people, adding that the governor has special love for Owerri West people.
In their separate remarks, the Government Liaison Officer of Owerri West, Dr. Smart Umeze, the Traditional Prime Minister of Umuoma community, Nze Obinna Aharanwa, the President General of the community, Uche Nwaneri, woman leader, Mrs Ijeoma Azuike, the youth leader simply identified as Nanas, appreciated the state government for conceiving the laudable project and citing it in their community.
Stakeholders of the community who accompanied the commissioner to the flagging off ceremony included; The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, General Manager, Imo State Housing Corporation, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi, Chairman Land use and Allocation Committee, Barr.I .E Ogoaju Dike.
Others included; the Senior Special Assistant on Housing development, Mrs Nnawuihe, Senior Special Assistant on Estate Development, Prince Chinedu Akakem, Prince Anane Njemanze, Senior Special Assistant, Urban Development, among others.
