Imo Workers Panic Over Down-Sizing Policy

By Okey Alozie

As promotion interview the commences in the Ministries, Parastatals and Agencies fear is said to have gripped top ranked  Civil Servants  In Imo State who may be forced to retire any moment from now based on Ohakim’s White Paper on Downsizing and rightsizing of Imo Labour Force which the Governor Hope Uzodinma administration is billed to implement.

Findings by Trumpeta revealed that apart from outright sack and retirement, those who have over stayed in office may be prosecuted by law.

Out of fear as we further gathered, many of the workers whose hands are not clean are dodging from attending the promotion interview that is ongoing at various Government Establishments because they were told to appear physically.

These appearances may spelt doom to them. It is most likely that the list of Imo authentic workers will be fished out and compiled. After the promotion, list of those who are qualified for the next level in the Civil Service will be made public.

It is now becoming clearer that not everybody will be promoted to next level.

Apart from having a lot of ghost workers in the lists many Ministries, Parastatals and Agencies as we were told do not employment records of their state.

Report has it that many of them do not have Imo number.

The system has also dictated those  who allegedly forged their age and certificates. Moreover, the original document the retirement date of all the civil servants is said to have been provided to fish out those who refused to go.

Right now a lot of fake workers will be dictated from the computer system since they have no hiding place again.

Information revealed that many of the senior civil servants who committed one fraud or the other are now on the run to avoid arrest and prosecution.

The worst hit is in the Teaching sector where it was alleged that 30 percent of staff of Secondary Education Management Board falsified their age and certificates to continue in office.

Report showed that those indicted by Government Panel for involving and partaking in various kinds of fraud are still in the system uptil now.

Concerned Imolites are now calling on the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to publish the 2010 White Paper on downsizing and right sizing of Imo workers for people to see.

One of the Administrators who spoke to our reporter at the State Secretariat Owerri said that the downsizing will reduce the wage bill of the State adding that it will also bring effective management of Government establishment and Workers.
