Irrespective of the misfortune that befell him and his political camp, It was an air of ecstasy and jubilation at Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri and Nkwerre hometown of Hon Jones Onyeriri, the PDP Senate Candidate for Orlu Zone who was stopped by the Supreme Court in Abuja.
But on return to Owerri on Tuesday, thousands of Onyereri’s supporters made up of PDP faithful and stakeholders thronged the airport to welcome him. Also on ground to give him a rousing honour on return after the court judgment are his sympathizers who took over the airport and Nkwerre hometown.
On arrival, thunderous applause with shouts of joy heralded his exit from the arrival hall wing of the Sam Mbakwe Airport when some of the supporters carried him shoulder high with attendant hailings
The apex court had on January 13, 2023 ruled that PDP has no candidate for the fast approaching election after two aspirants he defeated in the primaries; Hon Jerry Alagbaoso and ThankGod Ezeani went to court.
The arousing welcome had all the PDP candidates from Orlu zone, the women leaders, youth leaders, ward chairmen, political associates of Jones Onyereri and well wishes from across Imo State.
Speaking to Journalists in his Owerre Nkworji country home ,Dr Onyereri expressed with dismay how his own brothers from the same political family brought such an in- human case against him which according to him, is an agreement they had before the election primaries , adding that he is not giving up on the case .
He noted that he is keeping hope and faith alive in the Judiciary review that is coming up in no time, as he believe that God will make a name for himself as he has always do .
Onyereri expressed happiness and satisfaction over the way his people came out en-mass to support him and cheer him up on his trying times, he used the opportunity to promise his people that he will always protect their interest and believe that God will use him to fulfill all the purpose he has to accomplish here on earth.
It could be recalled that on the 13th of February 2023 , the apex court upturned his victory, because of a suit against him, over not holding their primaries that brought him as the candidate of PDP in the next general election for 25 February 2023 , which supposed to hold in Orlu rather was held in Owerri the state capital.
According to him, the election was held in Owerri the state capital which was unanimously agreed by all the then aspirants: Dr ThankGod Ezeani and Hon Jerry Alagbaoso across the state because of insecurity and incessant threat to lives and properties in the zone.
In her contribution, the woman leader of PDP Nkwerre LGA, Mrs Dam Stella Uzoka thanked God for the person of Dr Jones Onyereri and pray God to keep, sustain and protect him to bring to fulfillment all that God has programmed in his life, as she said that the women of Orlu zone will always pray and support him in all his ambitions.
Earlier in his contribution, the DG of Jones Onyereri campaign movement, Chief Michael Okafor said that him and other campaign council members are going to always bring in their ideas, support and contributions in making sure that his ambitions are achieved as he also pray God to sustain his boss in his ambitions.
