.As Ihedioha, Ugwu, Chuka Odom, Ezekwe, Others Storm Event
It was a kind of show of force of readiness for the main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State, as the party flagged off its state campaign amidst pomp and pageantry.
The colourful event which held at the St. Brigids Pavilion, Ahiara junction, Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, had key leaders of the party, stakeholders, candidates for various positions, members of the State Working Committee and other members of the executive, Chairmen of PDP of various local government areas, members and various support groups of the party in a joyous mood.
The party’s entourage was received with canon shots and crowd of jubilant party members, bearing placards who were visibly elated at the flagoff.
Earlier at stakeholders’ town hall meeting which held before the field rally, the State Chairman of the party, Engr. Charles Ugwu thanked the people of Ahiazu for coming out in their numbers to welcome his team for the rally. He assured the people that PDP remains the only party that has the wellbeing of the people as its main focus.
He charged the stakeholders made of market union leaders, civil society, Presidents General of town unions, faith based groups, in the area, to remain committed to the party, adding that its Presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all the candidates of the party, will ensure that the people benefit from policies and programmes and programmes of the Atiku presidency
In his address during the rally, former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, enjoined the people to jettison any other consideration and focus on delivering the Presidential candidate and his running mate, Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, noting that Ahiazu Mbaise and other parts of the state cannot afford to do otherwise at this critical time in the history of Nigeria.
He also tasked the people to ensure support for Hon. Uche Onyeagucha, candidate for Imo East, Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Emeka Chinedu, candidate for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency and Engr. Rex Okoro, candidate for Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency and
“We have a duty to prove that our party is the dominant party in Mbaise land. There is no controversy to the fact that Mbaise is the headquarters of PDP in Imo State. We have demonstrated it in the previous elections and I am sure we will do it again.
“Now listen, our Presidential candidate, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar and our brother, Ifeanyi Okowa, will ensure that there is justice in our land. We will witness once again, a reassurance of democratic values, infrastructure development, security, and above all, a Godfearing leadership that will be responsive and responsible to ensuring good governance.
“We don’t have any alternative to the Atiku/Okowa ticket and therefore we must work very hard to secure victory. His Excellency Atiku Abubakar has assured us of proper inclusion in the scheme of things and we must make sure that we deliver the votes to the 241 candidates we have.
Hon. Ihedioha, who is also the Imo State Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, reiterated his earlier call to the people to hastily collect their Permanent Voters Card, PVD and work to deliver all party candidates.
In their separate address, former State Chairman of PDP and Deputy Director of Presidential Campaign Management Organization, Chief Charles Ezekwem, Chief Chris Okewulonu, Chief Chuka Odom, Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso, Hon. Gerald Irona, Hon. Ray Emeana tasked members on the need to ensure a resounding victory for the party at the polls.
Highpoint of the rally was the presentation of the party’s flags to candidates, Hon. Onyeagucha, Hon. Emeka Chinedu, Hon. Rex Okoro who are running elections within the area.
The roll call of leaders include, Director of Finance, Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Chibuike Achigbu, Vice Chairman of the PCC, Hon. Jerry Alagbaoso, Chief Richmond Osuji, Chief Kennedy Chukwuonye, Chief PGU Madu, Chief Henry Ekpe, Ex National Officer, Chief Kenneth Akunnakwe, Chief Chuka Odom, member of the PCC, Chief Chibuike Achigbu, Deputy Director, Finance, Dr. Vin Udokwu, Director General of the Rebuild Imo Organization, Candidates and chairmen of the party from various LGAs, Chief peter Orji.
Also present were Sir Stan Ekezie, PDP Southeast Zonal Ex Officio, Barr. Nkiru Ibekwe, former Commissioner of Gender, the clergy,, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, Atiku Okowa Support Groups etc.
The campaign is expected to harness the resources of its party and that of the various leaders and lovers of the party.
