The PDP Candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, Hon. Barr. Uche Onyeagocha condemns in strongest terms the recent invasion, armed attack and assassination attempt on the life of the PDP House of Representatives Candidate for Ideato federal constituency, and Spokesperson for Coalition of United Political Parties, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere at his residence, Umukegwu Akokwa in Ideato Imo State, by armed gunmen which led to the murder of his uncle, police orderlies and setting of his residence ablaze.
Such an unprovoked and scurrilous act is a call for anarchy and a vicious attack on democracy and generality of the people of Ideato nation and Imo State at large.
We are indeed alarmed and particularly dismayed on the progression of sponsored terrorism and brazen act of war against opposing voices in the State, and wish to condemn without any reservations such act which has unfortunately become a serious threat to our democracy.
However, we are appalled by the continued declaration of hostilities and unleashing of terror on the opposition Candidates in the State which has indeed assumed an alarming and unfortunate progression.
We therefore, call on Imolites to rise and resist any attempt to foist a fascist regime in the State or put the people under a state of apprehension.
Hon. Onyeagocha therefore, commiserates with Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere over the unfortunate murder of his uncle and police orderlies in the crossfire gun duel and calls on the Federal government to swiftly intervene by unraveling those behind this dastardly act.
In the same vein, a former Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kelechi Nwagwu has also condemned the act.
In a personal Press Release signed by himself, Nwagwu said;
“My heart is bleeding and completely grieving on the dastardly and unnecessary bloodletting of innocent Imolities and destruction of properties going on in my dear state Imo, the heartland of the South East. This is most unfortunate at this time when everyone is swarming in had economic situation and totally enmeshed in palpable fear of the unknown with unabated insecurity.
I in its entirety condemn the killings and the destructions carried out in Ikenga Ugochinyere’s home. These acts will not go unravelled by the security operatives and God’s immediate vengeance. I’ve seen wickedness and impunity but this particularly one is unimaginable as the roguish operation was meant to kill the CUPP SPOKESMAN and House of Reps. candidate of PDP, Ideato South and North constituency. There’s nothing on earth is deserving taken one’s life than as enshrined in our laws. Men of good conscience and discerning minds should speak out in condemning this madness in our state”.
