Rejection of Autonomy: Imo Peoples Lambast House Threats Demonstration, Call Members Puppets

A majority of Imo citizens have poured scorn and venous  on the set of people representing them in the Imo Legislature, following the news that the present crop of members in the Imo House of Assembly have voted against autonomy for Local Government Areas.

They are also angry that even the Legislators voted against autonomy for the Legislature, which they are members.

Speaking to Trumpeta Reporters across Imo State, the Clergy, Politicians, Artisans, Civil Servants etc in Unison lambasted the Lawmakers, calling them puppets, for standing even against their own autonomy.

Some youths who spoke to this Newspaper threatened to go on demonstration, should the Lawmakers not over-rule their decision in the coming days.

Trumpeta learnt that the House in a special sitting on Tuesday, January 11, 2023 connived and voted against autonomy for LGAs, Judiciary and Legislature.

In the order of paper in items 1,2 and 9, the House voted against the autonomy against the wish of majority of their constituents who clamour for freedom for Judiciary, Legislature and Local Governments, from the strangle hold of State Governments that spend their funds recklessly.

“A bill for an act to alter the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to establish Local Government Councils as a tier of Government and guarantee their democratic existence and for related matters” got the rejection of Imo Assembly.

The Senate and House of Representatives had earlier sent the Bills to the House of Assembly for their approvals or rejections, so as to fast track the constitution amendment.

However, the Imo House of Assembly led by the new Speaker, Mr Emeka Nduka approved that the Judiciary, Local Government Areas, even the House of Assembly should remain under the control of the Executive.

Many political observers conclude that the present Imo Lawmakers are working for themselves and the Executive Governor, and not for the people who voted them into office.

Many had complained how the present Imo House of Assembly operates under the strings of the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, accused of manipulating the members as if they are  school children,  without their own plans for their constituents.

Within the last two years, the Imo House of Assembly had produced Four Speakers, and many had hoped that the latest Speaker, Maduka was coming to work for the masses, not knowing he came to work against the masses, pundits concluded.
