The honourable member representing Owerri Municipal in the Imo State House of Assembly, Honurable (Dr.), Victor Mere, on Monday kicked of his football competition , tagged Owerri Unity Cup.
According to the Chairman of the Local organizing Committee, Mr Uche Ejimofor, a one time General Manager of Iwuanyanwu National (now Heartland), the competition pitches the five villages in the Municipal Council and is designed to foster peace and unity among the citizens of the municipal area.
He also reiterated the efforts of Hon. Mere, who has shown with the donation of this cup that he will not relent in his comprehensive quality representation for his people especially in the life’s of the youths who are the future of our society.
The one time Imo State Football Association Chairman, Ejimofor, continued that the competition will not just attract trophies for the winners as the honourable is planning a huge surprise package for the winners of the Christmas football tournament and in indeed all the participating teams.
However, ‘Imo Trumpeta’ gathered from an unreliable source that the honorable might be given out a Bus, Passat car and other valuable items as prices to the winners.
Information has it also that if the plans of the amiable and youth loving house of assembly member comes through, it will be the first time such prizes will be giving to the winners of Owerri Unity Cup.
The competition is expected to come to its crescendo on the 2nd of January, 2013.
