DRIVERS CHARGED TO BE ROAD SAFETY CONSCIOUS

Drivers have been charged to be road safety conscious and obey traffic rules.
The Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers Ahiazu Mbaise Branch, Chief John Osuagwu gave the charge while addressing members at the Eke Ahiara Motor Park, recently.
He warned against drunk driven and sale of alcohol and illict drugs in parks.
Chief Osuagwu admonished drivers on use of GSM hand sets while driving and encouraged them to put on safety seat belt.
He urged them to be polite to passengers, respect pedestrians and observe road signs, particulaly at bents and zebra crossings.
The LGA NURTW Chairman who is also Mbaise Unit Co-ordinator Road Safety Special Marshal hinted that the commission would soon flagged off ember month road safety campaign at Afor Ogbe Motor Park and urged drivers to stop using rickety vehicles for transport.
He reiterated need for road worthiness and cautioned against dangerous over taking, reckless driving, over speeding and over loading.
Chief Osuagwu enjoined drivers to be patient on the road to minimize accidents and carnages, particularly this yuletide.
Disenchanted with proliferation in the union, Chief Osuagwu charged workers to always put on uniform to differentiate between them and miscreants who hide under disguise to perpetuate crime.
He directed all drivers going for charter to document movements with the branch office to checkmate dangers posed by hijackers, fraudsters and ritual killers.
Chief Osuagwu who is also the LGA Chairman Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) enjoined drivers to render useful information to the police to help reduce crime to the barest minimum.
He appealed to government to ensure availabity of petrol while pleading with marketers not to hike price or create artificial scarcity for a hitch free joyous Christmas and New Year
