CAF names three for African best player

 

Reigning footballer of the year, Ivory Coast and Manchester city midfielder Yaya Toure is joined by fellow Ivorian and national team captain, Didier Drogba and the Cameroonian midfielder, Alex song for the CAF African player of the year.

The winner will be announced later this month on 20th December at the Awards Gala inAccra,Ghana.

Cameroonian born international, song was voted in second place as Arsenal player of the season by the fans. The defensive midfielder had a hand in vital goals scored by Arsenal in 2011-12 season. He left forBarcelonain August 2012 after 204 appearances and 10 goals for Arsenal. He is a member of the Cameroon national team that failed to make  the AFCON 2013 in South Africa.

DIDIER Drogba  on his part had an eventful 2022-12 season with both club and country. He scored the equalizer and wining penalty to give Chelsea the European champion’s league title and missed a penalty in 2012 AFCON final during regulation time.

His goals took Ivory Coast into 2012 AFCON finals were they finished second to Zambia. He however scored the wining goal in the FA cup final for Chelsea in what becomes his last season with the English club before he signed for Shanghai Shenhua in china.

Yaya Toure, the younger brother to Kole Toure who also plays for man city and Ivory coast, will give fellow country man Drogba a run for the title as he helped to power man city to their first Premier league win.

He was also instrumental to the Ivorian national team along side Drogba as they finished second behindZambiain the 2012 AFCON held in EquitorialGuineaandGabon.
