Why Serving Imo Senators Won’t Return To National Assembly In 2023

Except their game plan changes or a party gives them opportunity to be their flagbear ahead the next election, it is certain that the trio of Senator Rochas Okorocha, Ezenwa Onyewuchi and Frank Ibezim won’t return to the Red chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja  to represent the three senatorial zones of the state.

At the end of the conduct of party primaries, their names were not listed as candidates of the major parties in the state.

Okorocha who is of the APC couldn’t file in interest to return to the senate as he opted for the Presidency.

His absence left the space open for others including the eventual winner, Senator Osita Izunaso to emerge party’s candidate for Orlu zone. In Owerri zone known as Imo East Senatorial District, Onyewuchi planned to return using the PDP ticket but the victory of Hon Uche Onyeagocha against him has become an obstacle. There was chance for him until last week primaries that knocked him off from using the PDP ticket.

In the case of Okigwe zone, incumbent Ibezim is unlucky to pick APC ticket again. Considering the battle he faced last year before he could be inaugurated as member of the Senate that replaced his party man, late Ben Uwajumogu, the short term in office is regrettable as he won’t return to the senate. A contestant, Patrick Ndubueze has the party’s ticket to run for the election.
