The coach of Owerri based NPFL side, Heartland FC otherwise known as Naze Millionaires; Erasmus Onuh has expressed optimism on his club avoiding relegation at the end of the season.
Heartland FC on Sunday started the second stanza of the NPFL on a bad note on in Lagos losing 1-0 to MFM FC at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
Trumpeta sports desk learnt the former Naze Millionaires who can hardly make ends meet now paraded five new players even as the new recruits failed to lift Heartland, the club manager, Erasmus Onu however remained upbeat that the club would survive the relegation battle.
Onu visibly not happy with the result said he would do his best to save the troubled club. While commending his players for their efforts noted that they would have salvaged at least a point in Lagos with some element of luck.
“The boys did their best. We will keep fighting and pushing. The task is to see the club escape relegation. I will do my very best to achieve this,” Onu said.
Recall that the coach had before the mid season break led Heartland to victories over Enyimba and Lobi Stars while also securing a draw in Katsina and Uyo. However, the results have not been able to take the club out of the red zone as they (Heartland) were completely down and out before Onu’s arrival.
Although the Naze Millionaires haven’t made public their new acquisitions, sources close to the management however revealed to Trumpeta sports desk that 7 new players including former Papilo FC player popularly known as “Muri” have been registered to help the former 5 time league champions survive relegation.
The Owerri Landlords have meanwhile lost the services of their top scorer, Emmanuel Jonas who during the window deadline pitched tent with Niger Tornadoes whom he got the winner for over the weekend against Dakkada FC.
