It was indeed a spectacular show of brilliant football skills likened to the battle of the Biblical David and Goliath during the novelty game between the Imo Angels FC and Ekwueme FC (U-15 boys).
The match which was held on Thursday March 10, 2022 at the City School playing ground on Wetheral road, Owerri was headlined by the President of Owerri Fitness International Club- Mr Chuks Madubuko who was also in company of his associates to support the Angels.
Imo Angels who are currently preparing for this seasons Nigeria Women Nation Wide league quickly stamped their authority in the encounter by possessing and caressing the ball but were unable to break the deadlock due to the resolute defense and brave saves by Ekwueme FC goalkeeper.
The early possession and push eventually paid off in the 36th minutes of play, as striker and Nigeria Under 17 Invitee (The flamingoes), Onyiyechi Kalu broke the jinx with a shot inside the penalty area to put the “Jenny Babes” nose in front.
The host team didn’t relent as they continued to mount pressure on the visiting team heading for the break.
The second stanza however saw the Ekwueme FC boys come out of their shells against the ladies but their dominance was short lived, as the Angles got their foot back on the throttle, but was unable to double their advantage before the referee ended hostilities.
Speaking after the fascinating encounter, the Chairperson/CEO of Imo Angels FC, Lady Jenny Anusiem said she wouldn’t want to sound proud but that she knows what her girls can do. She maintained that, “not only did they win, they played good football”.
Lady Jenny Anusiem went further to state that she was elated and proud her girls performance and wished them well in subsequent games.
