APFON Moves Screening of Players And Coaches to December

 

 

The Owerri Zone, Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (APFON) screening exercise for players and coaches into its national teams has been moved forward to December 6.

 

According to information reaching ‘Imo Trumpeta’ the screening exercise was shifted from the original date November 17 to allow for a better and effective participation of participants.

 

The programme which was designed to select players and coaches into APFON’s national teams will also avail participants the opportunity of being exposed to European Academies for skills development as well as having the possibility of securing contract deals with local or foreign football clubs.

 

In his own words, the zonal co-ordinator for Owerri, an ex-international and Iwuanyanwu International player Ben Nwosu emphasized the importance of the programme as vocational skills will be impacted into the participants, stating that some of the coaches will be recruited to drive football in the “community project”.

 

He further revealed that the exercise will be for players within the age bracket of under 13, under 15, under 17, free age and for the coaches.

 

The APFON project has in the past been able to develop many star players and has Obinna Nsofor who plays for Locomotive Moscow in Russia as its Ambassador.

 

The exercise is also taking place in 10 other centres across the nation with notable football internationals taking charge of the programmes Edema Fuludu in Warri, Dahiru Sadi (MFR) in Kaduna, Stephen Cole in Benin, Prince Udofia in PortHarcourt, John Ekpeyong in Uyo, Wisdom Nwachukwu in FCT, David Aigbovo in Benin, Alhj. Ganiyu Majek in Abeokuta, Bawa Mohammed in Kano and Evang. Tony Adiele in Lagos.
