Academic activities at the newly relocated Imo State Polytechnic, Omuma, in Oru East Council Area, of Imo State, has began, with the matriculation of newly admitted students.

The epoch making event took place last week at the campus premises in Omuma, the Oru East headquarters..

It was the Polytechnic’s 41st matriculation exercise, and the first to hold at Omuma since relocation from its former place at Umuagwo, Ohaji, to the Omuma permanent site.

While it is important to note that lectures on the campus had since commenced at the beginning of 1st Semester last year, 2021, it’s pertinent to also note that the Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, the Faculty of Science, and all administrative departments/units are among those relocated to the Omuma campus, sometime  in November, 2021.

Notice of information released by the tertiary institution clearly stated that, only HND II and ND Il students are to remain on Umuagwo Campus for conclusion of their programs.

However, elated by this development, the Interim Management Committee, IMC, Chairman of Oru East LGA, Nze Nyerere Ogbonna has commended the move.

He raised the bars on Governor Hope Uzodimma for doing the needful, as approved by the NUC and the State Legislature.

He thumbed up for Uzodimma for his quest in improving quality academic learning and excellence among Imo students.

Nze Nyerere seized the opportunity to warn students against any form of vices or criminality.

He charged them to shun cultism, banditry and all forms of acts that may be inimical to their own growth.

Nyerere retorted that engaging in crimes would never do them any good, rather will endanger their lives and careers.

The IMC Chairman, who described the institution as a resource centre for academic excellence and character moulding, encouraged the students to show enough seriousness and determination in their studies,  instead of being involved in cultism, prostitution, and other social vices.

From a press release signed by the Chairman’s media aide, Christopher Ononukwe, obtained by this newspaper,  Nze Ogbonna enthused, “The pace with which our Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma conceived and actualised the siting of the institution in Omuma is a clear indication that the government takes quality education as a priority to reach every citizen in the State and beyond.

“I am sure you know that the Governor completed numerous infrastructural projects everywhere in the State. The Governor is not relenting in doing more for the overall interest of Ndi Imo and her residents”.

Further speaking to the students, he said, “Today, I bring the words of the Governor to you, that you should work smartly. Be good ambassadors to your families and the society. Never be involved in any examination malpractice, crimes and criminalities which may truncate your lives and hope for the future. My token of advise to you is that you take your studies seriously and pray to God for you to come out with flying colours.”

Similarly, the titled Nze Ogbonna extolled the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Sir John Okechukwu Mbadike, and the Registrar, Mrs Susan Njemanze for their administrative  prowess in ensuring that the school remains a giant citadel for learning and research, as well as for excellence, while commending all the staff for their various healthy contributions on and off the campus.

Other community Leaders and Academia like Chief Law Nwaobodo was present to witness the event.
