Uwajumogu Threatens Media Houses

In what appears a frontal attack against Newspaper Houses in Imo, the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumuogu, Tuesday, fired warning shots to Newspaper owners.

Uwajumuogu, who was reacting to ceaseless Newspaper reports over ongoing moves in the House to impeach him, said he will not hesitate to sanction any Newspaper publisher who continues to write on plot to impeach him by his colleagues.

In his petition submitted to the House after plenary session, the speaker said he has the right to the summon any Newspaper publisher to the House that writes anything against him and the House.

He urged them to exercise caution in their reports, while condemning in strong terms the act of erroneously involving the names of some members of the House in a non-existent plot to unseat him.

He described reports of his impeachment as false and malicious, and a calculated attempt to create disharmony amongst members of the House.

The speaker’s outburst is coming on the heels of several Newspaper reports last week that there is disaffection in the House as members are said to have shunned plenary sessions to register their displeasure over their welfare.

Some members were alleged to have gone the extra mile to complain to the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to express their unhappiness over the speaker’s indifferent attitude to members.

Meanwhile, relative calm pervaded the House yesterday as members resumed plenary. Imo Trumpeta, however observed that some members fingered in the plot to unseat Uwajumuogu were conspicuously absent.
