Campos FC on Saturday out smarted their counterparts from Oshogbo, Osun United FC to record their first win in the club’s history at home in this seasons Nigeria National League NNL, otherwise known as “the most important league” at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The visitors against the run of play during the first stanza drew the first blood at the 26th minute when Jerry Emmanuel with Jersey number 11 leaped above the home team’s defenders to head in the opener from a well taken free kick by Pelumi Olaoluwa.
Ogbuehi Nzubechi, jersey number 11 got Campos FC back into the game when he profited from a rebound in the 55th minute of play to restore parity which was his first goal for the Owerri based side in two straight appearances this season.
Campos FC who were galvanised after recording their first goal in NNL pilled lots of pressure on their visitors which eventually paid off with Prince Okorie, jersey number 20 scoring the match winner with a thunderous shot 30yards away from goal to send the cheering crowd into joyous celebration.
Efforts by the travelers to draw level however proved abortive as the match ended 2 – 1 in favor of the host.
Reacting after to pen pushers after the entertaining encounter, Coach Arobadi Olumide of Campos FC praised players for reacting positively after going a goal down in the first stanza;
“It wasn’t an easy game after coming back from Abeokuta, the lads had fatigue and were stressed out which affected us in the first half as we also missed lots of scoring chances.”
“We will keep on pushing and encourage the lads to always give in their best as we hit the road again in search for our first points away from home.”
However, Coach Baruwa Olatunji Osun United FC blamed loss of concentration to their loss;
“My players lost concentration after we got the first goal in the first half, if not we would have gotten a point at least from this game as this was our aim coming here.”
” There is no superior team in the league, so I believe that we will do well as we go home to prepare adequately for our next match.”
Campos Fc will hit the road once again to square up against Abeokuta Stormers in one of the match day 3 encounters at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on Saturday 26th February, 2022.
