Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that the 2012
Ozuruimo cultural festival will boost the tourism potentials of the
state in line with the Rescue Mission Agenda of his administration.
Governor Rochas Okorocha, state this at Imo Concorde Hotel Owerri
during the official flag off ceremony of 2012 Ozuruimo cultural
carnival.
Gov. Okorocha, also said that the responsibility of preserving and
protecting the Igbo’s culture has fallen on the new generation, and
advised that all efforts should be geared towards keeping our culture
alive.
The governor explained that the 2012 Oruruimo festival will be sued to
showcase the culture of Imo people so that Nigerians and outside world
will know that Imo not only produces that best brains but also the
best cultures in the world.
He disclosed that the carnival floats will include the Governor’s
train, Deputy Governor, SSG, the State ministries among others.
The governor also said that all traditional rulers in the state would
come out with their cabinet members in their carnival train as well as
the tertiary institutions in the state.
Speaking on the level of developments in the state, he said that Imo
state will be ranking the best state in no distant time in Nigeria.
Earlier, in an address of welcome, presented by the Commissioner for
Culture and Tourism, Barr. Lady Ugochi Nnanna Okoro, thanked Gov.
Rochas Okorocha for his vision. She said that the essence of Ozuruimo
cultural festival, is to inspire Imo people to cherish their rich
cultural heritage and at the same time serve to foster a dynamic
re-evaluation of their cultural past with the social economic changes
of time.
In an opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Senator Osita
Izunaso, extolled governor Rochas Okorocha for his love for culture,
and assured that the best in Ozuruimo will come out in this 2012
events and urged Imolites to support the 2012 Ozuruimo festival which
will help to showcase the culture of Imo people to the outside world.
Adding his voice, the chairman planning committee of Ozuruimo 2012,
Mr. Paddy Obinna, thanked Governor Okorocha for giving him the
opportunity to serve, and at the same time, outline the activities
lined up the cultural celebration.
He appealed to all Imolites to support the cultural festival that
happens to be the best in the world.
