It was indeed a carnival atmosphere at the Ifakala Community Secondary School Field, Mbaitoli LGA during the epic final of the 2nd edition of the N20m worth Akarachi Mbaike Unity Football Competition for all the 24 Wards in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.
The final which was keenly contested saw the defending champions, Amaimo retain the trophy they won last season after overcoming same opponent they met last season in the final, Orodo B via the gamble and lottery of penalties (4-3) after the regulation time had ended goalless.
In the 3rd place encounter earlier decided before the final at the same venue, Akabo came from behind to win also on penalties (5-4) against Orodo A after the normal time equally ended in a 1-1 draw.
The excited donor, Engr Akarachi Amadi during the ceremonial presentation of awards splashed a mouth watering some of N3.5m to the winners aside the individual award winners.
The champions, Amaimo for their troubles of retaining the trophy went home with N1.5m, the 1st runner -up, Orodo B were rewarded for their gallant show with the sum of N800,000 while the 2nd runner -up, Akabo and the 4th placed team Orodo A got N500,000 and N200,000 respectively.
For the individual awards, the Top Scorer, Chibueze Agha of Orodo A (6goals), Best Keeper, Amara Anthony of Amaimo, Best Behaved Team, Orodo A and Best Player of the Tournament (MVP), Ekene Onu from Amaimo all got N100,00 each.
The tournament was heavily attended by top dignitaries from the Federal Constituency including father of the donor, Chief Charles Amadi (Chalvon), SA to Imo Governor on Religious Matter, Rev B, all Councillor’s of the 24 Wards and top APC chieftains in the state.
