The Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha at the weekend exposed inherent benefits of reviewing the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Speaking at an interactive session with his constituents in Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Fed. Constituency at Mbutu, Ihedioha said that the ongoing exercise is a bottom-top approach that entails involving the grassroots in producing the peoples’ Constitution.
He noted that in the new constitution, the peoples’ views and opinion must surely count. Ihedioha stated that 43 items have been subjected to a review, stating that the people now exercise the right to make inputs into the constitution.
The public hearing which was chaired by legal luminary, Chief Mike Ahamba witnessed diverse opinions on various issues such as community policing, state creation, local government and tenure of public office holders.
Speaking to newsmen, Chief Ahamba commended Hon. Ihedioha for the initiative and canvassed that every citizen of the country should enjoy the right of citizenship wherever he or she resides.
