Heartland Queens FC of Owerri will today face Edo Queens in their bid to make the knock out stage of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Invitational Tournament currently on going at Benin City, Edo state.
The Owerri based d ladies who were paired in group A with the host team, Edo Queens, NPFL newly promoted side, Naija Retels FC of Abuja and newly formed Rolly FC of Benin City won their opening tie against Rolly Angels FC.
The Owerri Queens on Tuesday during day 2 games shared the spoils with Naija Ratels in what looked like a revenge tie for the Imo team who earlier this month at Abuja during the NWFL Championship play off lost to the Abuja team.
Heartland Queens goalkeeper, Uchechi Onyechere predictably produced some heartwarming and wonderful saves to keep her side in the game.
The point adds to Heartland Queens’ overall to four and second on Group A log behind leaders, Edo Queens with six while Naija Ratels are on one point just as the whipping side of the group, Rolly Angels FC have no point after two matches.
Yesterday was observed as rest day for the participating teams while group matches will be concluded on tiday. Top team in each group will earn an automatic spot in the semifinals and to be joined by the overall best losers.
The Betsy Obaseki Cup was put together to honour the first lady of Edo state, Mrs. Besty Obaseki and will be concluded on Sunday October 3, 2021 with the winners going home with a handsome reward.
