The 2023 election may seem far away, but political pundits know that only those who prepare well for a journey get there on time and safe.
Following this dictum, indications are that those who want to be elected into the Senate in Imo East (Ow Zone) under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP are said to have started in earnest to prepare the grounds.
Trumpeta has it on good authority that both in body language and horse tradings, three major politicians in PDP in Owerri Zone are poised to enter the political ring whenever the Bell rang.
The names ringing bell already are Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Bar Uche Onyeagocha and Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu, and others said to be preparing but not fully ready now till the appointed time.
These heavy weights are seen as those to slug it out in the PDP Senate primary for Owerri zone.
Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi is the incumbent Senator representing Imo East in the Red Chamber in Abuja.
He hails from Orji in Owerri North LGA, and he is yet to complete his first term on the seat.
Many had thought that Ezenwa would enjoy an easy stay on the seat, and even pick the next ticket easily.
This, many said, is because of the massive work he has down in terms of facilities he attracted for his constituents in the last two years.
Ezenwa is reputed to have at least one project in each of the communities in his Senatorial zone, ranging from Roads, Markets, Electric Projects, Hospitals, Pipe Borne Water, even scholarships.
He also said to have done well in the area of Bill and Law making.
However, pundits are worried that despite these recorded marks, Ezenwa is still under pressure from contestants eyeing his seat.
“We know that in politics there must always be contests, but I think that Ezenwa is not given his due right. He should be allowed to continue the good work first” A Top PDP chieftain told Trumpeta.
Trumpeta was told that as long as the PDP primaries would be based on merit, there is no Aspirant yet that can hold a candle on Ezenwa.
“No Senator in Owerri Zone that has done what Senator Ezenwa has been able to achieve in less than two years” Trumpeta was told.
Chief Uche Onyeagocha is the immediate past Secretary to the Imo State Government SSG and he is a native of Obinze in Owerri West LGA. He was a member of the House of Representatives, and had ran for Senatorial Seat of Imo East before he attempted to run for the Imo Governorship seat in 2019.
Pundits say he is one of those that will give Senate Ezenwa a fight for his money.
Sources said that Onyeagocha is a war tested politician who dares where Lions fear to tread.
However, what many are asking is if he has the grounded political structure to confront a sitting Senator for the PDP slot in 2023?
Indications are that Onyeagocha is said to preparing seriously for the Battle ahead, even though some sources said he has not yet made it open, but his body language suggests that he will contest the 2023 Owerri Senate Seat.
Another rumoured Aspirant for the seat is Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy). He was the Senator on that seat until he opted out to vie for Governorship under PDP primaries in 2019 and lost.
Trumpeta has it on good authority that Senator Anyanwu is marshalling everything out to return to the National Assembly.
It was learnt that he has already put the machinery to tackle the task ahead on ground, including appointing Arrow Heads in the seven LGAs in Imo East for the project.
This Newspaper was told that Anyanwu is not leaving any stone unturned in other to clinch the Imo PDP Owerri zone ticket come 2023.
With the situation on ground, the Imo East PDP ticket is going to be a tough battle for all the contestants, as it is going to be the battle of the Titans.
