The battle for the soul of the All Progressive Congress APC, Imo State chapter is about to commence, with the Ward, LGA, and State Congresses billed for the election of Executives of the party in Imo State.
Trumpeta learnt that the major issue now in the party is the position of the State Chairman which is causing ripples in the party.
This Newspaper was informed that with Senators Rochas Okorocha and Ifeanyi Araraume almost pushed out of the party, the Imo APC is now under grip of Governor Hope Uzodinma as the Leader.
Sources told Trumpeta that the issue of who becomes the State Chairman now resides with the Governor.
Trumpeta learnt that already Governor Uzodinma has accepted that the Chairmanship slot will remain in Owerri Zone, and two Aspirants have already been identified, which is an indication that the incumbent State Chairman, Chief Marcon Nlemigbo will leave.
Reliable sources said that the Leader of the party wants Owerri zone to retain the State Chairmanship as a plot to checkmate the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who many believe has a total grip on Owerri Zone.
Trumpeta also was told that the Chairmanship could still swing to Okigwe zone, if the Leader did not fish out somebody who can “Wholly be trusted from Owerri zone”.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that even though there are many options from Owerri Zone, the major person prefared by the Leader is Dr Iyke Njoku, a former Commissioner For Environment in the State.
Our source said that Njoku seems to fill in the character the Leader wants, as he has been a loyal follower of Governor Uzodinma from Owerri zone for decades now. Njoku hails from Aboh Mbaise LGA.
“He knows the Governor well, and his own brand of politics. And he is loyal to Uzodinma to the core” Trumpeta was told.
The other fellow mentioned was Chief Blyden Amajirionwu, a former Special Adviser to the Governor.
Amajirionwu hails from Ngor Okpala LGA, and was a former State Publicity Secretary of the PDP.
Trumpeta learnt that those the Governor sent to fish out capable hands and people that could be trusted for the position are said to have indentified Amajirionwu whom they said has experience in political party management.
However, sources said that in the last count, the Governors confidants are parading more “Aspirants” to the Governor.
These people Trumpeta was told are fighting to have a chairman who will obey the Governor and still work for others seeking for other positions in 2023.
“They want to convince the Governor on this particular man from Owerri North LGA, who is being sponsored to work for the Governor, but will protect the Senatorial interest of this Money Bag from Owerri Zone eyeing Senate Seat in 2023. I won’t mention name” A top APC stalwart disclosed.
