The Citizens and inhabitants of Imo State have raised alarm, and cried out to the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to please intervene with a looming danger in the State, as the State capital Owerri is nearly subverged by heaps of Refuse littered in the streets of Owerri.
The citizens who spoke to the PRESS said that if nothing is done quickly airborne diseases are bound to be the next affliction that will face residence of Owerri, and its environs after the issue of insecurity.
According to the Report, the mountains of Refuse pose a serious danger to lives, especially this raining season, when diseases could be easily transmitted across neighborhoods.
Investigations availed that the situation which was nearly put under control some months has collapsed to the extent that Owerri is easily becoming the dirtiest State capital in Nigeria.
“It is becoming shameful that Owerri noted for its cleanness is now an eye sore.
From Egbu, Uratta, Nekede, Agbala, to Naze that are entry points to the State capital, you are first welcome by this ugly scenario” Dr Japhet Nwachukwu told Reporters.
He continued “As you enter Owerri City, from MCC Road, Chukwuma Nwoha, Ikenegbu, Mbaise Road, Douglas Road you will be ashamed with the dirts situation” he said.
According to Nze Festus Njoku, who resides in World Bank Area, some of the neighbourhood Associations have resolved to employ Trucks to evacuate dirty in their environments.
“Rather than wait for Government endlessly and perish, we have taxed ourselves to find a means of removing these Refuse dumps everywhere” he said.
However, a source who pleaded anonymity but is close to Imo Government said that the insecurity that hit the State recently affected many sectors, pleading that evacuations have started, blaming the situation on the insecurity which sent Sanitation Workers into hiding, while the masses kept throwing out refuse from their homes, without evacuation.
Some of Imo citizens who spoke advised those incharge to make sure that whatever that are removed from drainages should be cleared immediately.
“A situation dirty brought out from gutters are left until rain sends them into gutter is not acceptable. It is a waste of funds and should be stopped” Mr Stanley Ihekoronye said.
