VIGILANTES CHARGED TO WORK WITH POLICE TO REDUCE CRIME

Vigilantes have been charged to work hand in glove with the police to boost crime detection, prevention and control.

The traditional ruler of Oru Ahiara, Eze Joe Oleka gave the charge while addressing a cross section of his cabinet and community vigilantes in his palace recently.

He encouraged them on intelligent information gathering and communication, reminding the vigilantes of their sensitive roles as grassroots soldiers.

The royal father condemned the inordinate quest for wealth among youths, especially during Christmas season and urged the vigilantes to be more alert to curb the ugly trend.

Eze Oleka called on parents and guardians to bridle their children against bad peer groups influence, cultism, illicit drug use, gangsterism, ritual killings, armed robbery and kidnapping, emphasizing the need to ensure that they are engaged in meaningful ventures to divert their interest away from crime.

He commiserated with victims of flood disaster across the country and appealed that the money released by the federal government to cushion the effect be judiciously disbursed.

On the fear of impending food shortage resulting from the disaster, he emphasized the need for non seasonal aggressive farming to bring agriculture back as the main drive of Nigeria economy.

He insisted that all year round farming would reduce over dependence on oil, ensure food security, promote non-oil exports and foreign earnings, create jobs as well as reduce youth’s involvement in crime.

The royal father prayed Nigerians to refrain from bush burning, deforestation, illegal sand excavation and gas flaring to reduce climate change and global warning for preserved ecological system.
