Following financial stress that his hit Imo State, the Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma is said to have decided to reduce the number of his Appointees this time and save money for other pressing matters of State.
It would be recalled that the Governor recently sacked all his Aides, leaving only a few Commissioners, and Head of Agencies.
However, Trumpeta has it on good authority that in constituting his new Expanded State Executive, the Governor will reduce the number of his Aides to a manageable number and save cost.
Uzodinma after he assumed office as Governor had appointed over Three Hundred (300) Aides, ranging from Commissioner, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Personal Assistant etc.
He in particular appointed Twenty Eight (28) Commissioners, meaning that each of the Twenty Seven Local Government Areas of that State is represented by one person in the State Executive Council.
Trumpeta was told that Uzodinma adopted that style in order to appease many of those who stood with him, while the Imo Governorship battle raged.
Trumpeta was told that the Governor has regretted that act, as the “Magnanimity” could still not assuage most of his Aides, who are accused of going about to complain that they are not getting anything from Government.
This Newspaper learnt that the Governor has now decided to appoint a few number of Aides, who would be fished out from various political camps in APC, and must be Professionals in their Fields.
“This time around, Technocrats are Professionals will dominate the new Exco and not Professional politicians who have nothing to offer” Trumpeta was told.
Trumpeta was learnt that nearly what comes into Imo State is spent on salaries and wages, which has not been of any benefit to the Government.
Sources said that the over-bloated number of appointees by Uzodinma became counter -productive, as most of the Appointees were doing same job, which led to clash of duties, interest and open confrontation in Government.
“Many of the Appointees had nothing to do and were roaming around doing nothing, and in the process accuse the Government of starving them of funds to run their offices” a top APC member told Trumpeta.
Sources told Trumpeta that it was because of this situation that led to some Commissioners clashing with their subordinates appointed Special Advisers.
However, sources said that the problem facing the Governor now is what to do with some of the Appointees who have nowhere to go except politics.
“These once who have nothing to do till the next election are problems, and will cause more problem for the Governor” Trumpeta was told.
Already, the Governor is said to have started compiling the list of “the lucky ones as most of the former appointees will not return due either zoning formula, none performance, sabotage and indictment” a source close to the Governor told Trumpeta.
