Owerri, the Imo State capital, which was completely deserted and abandoned by inhabitants in the last few days, is gradually beginning to record inflow of activities, as people are returning to the streets.
Before the Sit-at-Home called by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafran IPOB, the Imo State capital has been restive since some “Unknown Gunmen” stormed the State Police Headquarter and the Correctional Centre in April and released Prison Inmates numbering over N1,800 one thousand, eight hundred.
However, as the Owerri residence were getting over the Easter Monday Mayhem at the State Police Headquarters, Hoodlums again visited chaos on Orji, near Owerri, where stray bullets killed over four citizens.
The climax of the insecurity and fight against “Unknown Gun” came to a head on Sunday, when a top political figure in Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak was murdered along Sam Mbakwe Airport Road.
Later that same day, Security Operatives clashed with Gunmen along the busy Umuahia road, by Radio Nigeria FM station around Aboh Mbaise LGA.
After the battle, many of the Gunmen laid dead, even as residents of the environment counted their loses both in human and physical destruction.
However, despite the facts that these incidents took place far away from the State capital, Owerri, but the entire scenario vibrated in the State, where most of the elites and artisans reside or visit every day for their day to day businesses.
On Monday, the Imo State capital was grounded as nobody stepped out from their residences.
On Tuesday, people started coming out, but yesterday, activities gradually increased in action as most Shops and Banks opened for business.
However, in order to apply caution, most residence of Owerri deserts the City about 6pm for their homes every day.
Indications are that if the security improves, things will return to normal, and Imo State will begin to bubble as before.
But despite assurances from the State Government and Security Agencies, the citizens are still apprehensive and operating in the day, and avoiding the nights.
