Despite the insecurity that has placed Imo State in the news, the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has vowed that Governance will not suffer, as he embarks on the process of appointing more Commissioners to replace those sacked from his Cabinet.
It would be recalled that Uzodinma some weeks ago dissolved his cabinet by sacking twenty Commissioners, leaving only eight, out of the total Twenty Eight.
However, Trumpeta learnt that the Governor has started compiling the list of the new Commissioners, which would be dispatched to the House of Assembly for confirmation.
Trumpeta learnt that this time around following experience he has garnered in the last one and half years he assumed office, the Governor has decided to allow the people this time to make input in his cabinet by allowing Leaders in the various LGAs in the State to fish out “candidates” for the Commissionership positions.
This Newspaper learnt that Uzodinma arrived at this idea, because of the complaint that most of his Commissioners were not grassrooted, as the Leaders were not part of the process through which they emerged Commissioners.
“The Governor did not know the pedigree or character of some of the people he made Commissioners. Some of them have no connection with the people, even as some of them could not even visit their Communities” Trumpeta was told by an APC top shot from Owerri zone.
Trumpeta learnt that it was in the bid to fish out these new Commissioners that Uzodinma has been meeting various LGAs in the Government House now for weeks.
“It is from these visits that the Governor will arrive on those to make the list. He has already penciled down those from the LGAs that had visited” Trumpeta was told.
This Newspaper learnt that Uzodinma who was shocked with his victory in court, hurriedly assembled people who he could reach at that time to set up his Government, which was why most of the Commissioners then were core politicians, than Professionals and Technocrats.
“It is assumed that the Governor has learnt his lessons, and will now give Imo people a solid cabinet that will move the State forward. He has settled politicians with his first appointments. This time it will be on merit” Trumpeta was told.
It was also learnt that after fixing his cabinet, the Governor will face other appointees that make up his Expanded Executive, as the Governor has even lost count of how many SAs, SSAs and other appointees he has.
