Another round of fear has enveloped Imo State, especially the state capital, Owerri, where a clash between unknown hoodlums and herdsmen has left one dead and many cows killed in the process.
The fear has somehow forced residents of Orji environs to cease public appearance for now despite presence of security operatives roving the area.
Trumpeta learnt that two days ago was not a good day for herdsmen who operated around Hanel area of Orji through IMSU back gate.
According to reports, the herdsmen were challenged by unknown gunmen whose identities while grazing with their cows at the Hanel area. At the end of the clashes, one of the cattle rearers was reportedly feared dead while few got injured. Also some of their cows were also killed in the process.
The incident has attracted the presence of army and security operatives who visited the area and have continued security patrol in the locality.
Trumpeta investigation has it that the attack not only surprised the residents but also took the herdsmen unawares. Residents were only miffed the next day when casualties were recorded.
In view of fear of reprisal attack, the residents are living in fear and unable to move freely in Orji. Even the presence of the military and police have also sent shivers down spines of the residents.
Efforts to get police reaction proved futile.
