We the entire GPD Class of 1996 – 2000 are appealing to Imo State Government, spirited Imo State citizens, Nigerians, men and women of goodwill to support us save Master Chidiebube Anyanwu who is at the point of going blind if urgent intervention is not undertaken.

Master Chidiebube’s father, Mr. Pius Anyanwu suffered similar predicament growing up but lost his vision during his secondary school days as a result of lack of funds.

Mr Anyanwu who hails from Aboh Mbaise in Imo State was the 5th child in a family of 7 children. Growing up, Mr. Anyanwu was very dedicated and hardworking until tragedy struck in his 3rd year in the secondary school. An eye problem his parents took for granted ended up uttering the cause of their son’s life. The disaster that could have been averted turned into a nightmare.  Mr Anyanwu suddenly became blind. But despite his blindness, Mr. Anyanwu became more determined than ever to succeed in life. Though, he struggled to see himself through the four walls of university but with the assistance of friends, families and fellow course mates. But to say the journey through university as a blind man was easy for Mr. Anyanwu is an understatement. Mr. Anyanwu went through hell, stigmatization and discrimination before he graduated.

Today, history is about to repeat itself; Mr. Anyanwu’s 6 year old son finds himself in similar situation and risk going blind if urgent intervention is not undertaken. Master Chidiebube has been diagnosed with Bilateral Retinal Detachment and Bilateral Cataract by Eye Foundation, Lagos.

To get a second opinion and to ensure the prognosis is not as grim as it was initially presented, we carried out a separate and independent test/assessment and to our surprise, the result came back revealing similar diagnosis from Eye Foundation. The Specialist we consulted further advised that Master Chidiebube has infact, lost most of his vision and will require urgent surgery/medical attention in order to regain his full sight. She even advised that Mr. Anyanwu’s three other children needs to undergo eye treatment or else, they all risk going blind. The situation looks quite pathetic.

Because of the age of Master Chidiebube and the delicate nature of his case, Eye Foundation has referred him to John Hopkins Medical International United States of America where he is expected to undergo surgery and other treatments to be able to see again. The estimated cost of his treatment is $29,300.00 USD approximately N11.5m which includes surgery, travel cost, feeding, accommodation and other miscellaneous expenses.

We’re therefore appealing to Imo State Government, every spirited Imolite, Nigerians,  men and women of goodwill to come to the aid of Mr. Anyanwu and his family so that together we can save Master Chidiebube from this impending disaster that’s about to happen.

Master Chidiebube has missed so much school as a result of his poor or lack of vision and he looks forward to the day when he will rejoin classes again with his peers after receiving the necessary treatment he requires.
