The Imo state government may have engaged in policy somersault as students using the newly distributed school uniforms have been tactfully asked to stop using the state government provided uniforms till further notice. The imported school uniforms, for Primary and post School Pupils, have become a thorny issue, as insufficient number of uniforms has stalled plans to ensure Primary and Secondary Schools Pupils in the state have a single uniform.
This has compelled the Imo State Government to stop forthwith the usage of the uniforms by primary and secondary school students in the State, a development which smacks of policy inconsistence on the part of the State Government.
Weekend Trumpeta, further learnt that plans by the state government to ensure that all secondary School Pupils put on a particular uniform, have also hit the rocks as only some students of secondary Schools in Owerri Municipality seem to be enjoying the imported uniforms in the interim,,
The uniforms, said to have been imported from the Asian country ofChina, is now causing ripples. While some schools outsideOwerriMunicipalitydid not see any of the blue and navy colour type of uniform, others reportedly received a meager 20 pieces of the uniform. This is a major shortfall compared to the vast number of pupils in the Primary School system in Imo state.
This development has caused a major stir in the School system as those who did not benefit from the uniforms wondered if the free education programme introduced by the Okorocha Administration is selective or a hoax.
It will be recalled that the Okorocha Administration allegedly imported educational materials such as chalks, dusters, school uniforms from China, saying it is part of efforts to ensure Primary and post primary School Pupils in the public school system enjoy qualitative education.
