Imo Civil Guards have now chosen to beg for money instead of using their uniforms to work for traffic decongestion especially at junctions in Owerri.
Trumpeta roving reporter observed that the operatives of the Imo Civil Guard don’t even have schedule any longer. Rather the smith officers among them come out only in the afternoon and evenings to use their uniforms to beg for money at strategic junctions in Owerri.
Concerned Imo people who complained against the Civil Guard operatives in the State are not happy with the way they beg for money from vehicle drivers.
The major places where they converge to beg for money include Control Post Owerri, Ware House junction, Fire Service and World Bank Estate last roundabouts.
Instead of helping the Traffic to flow freely, the Civil Guards officers are seen busy begging money from big Lorries and trailer drivers in order to make way for them to pass even when it is not their turns and this act has made Bus drivers to raize alarm on daily bases.
Without giving them money as we were told, the Civil Guards at the various junctions will not allow your vehicle to pass.
This extortion of money has caused serious fight between them and the bus drivers who refused to pay as we gathered. At Control Post the Civil Guards there collect N100 from each of the Trailer drivers before allowing them to pass.
Bus drivers pay them N50 each while taxi drivers give them headache if they demand for money.
Information available to our news desk revealed that the service of Imo Civil Guard is no longer acceptable by the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma.
