It was a convergence of brethrens last Saturday at the thanksgiving service and grand reception hosted weekend by Assemblies of God Church Professionals in honour of the new Vice Chancellor of Evangel University, Akaeze, Ebonyi State, Prof. Iche Ukpai Kalu.
The General Superintendent (GS) of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Ejikeme Ejim opened the floodgate of encomiums in his sermon at Assemblies of God Church, Archdeacon Dennis street, Ikenegbu, Owerri, Imo State during the thanksgiving service.
Rev. Ejim extolled the virtues of Prof. Kalu, describing him as a man of honour to whom honiur had been given.
The GS who noted that Prof. Kalu was loved by all also commended his wife for being an exemplary helpmate to the husband, which culminated to the appointment as the second substantive Vice Chancellor of Evangel University.
The GS canvassed righteous living, saying no one that does wickedness shall expect God’s reward.
He urged the new VC to see his appointment as a call to serve God and humanity and further take the university to an enviable height.
Also speaking, the District Superintendent of the church in Owerri East and South east 2 representative, Dr. A. U. Amadi said Prof. Kalu did noble things at the district and congratulated him on his meritorious appointment.
Dr. Amadi saluted the AG Professionals for organizing the thanksgiving service and grand reception for the new VC.
Responding, Prof. Iche Ukpai Kalu effusively thanked the Governing * Council of the university for finding him worthy to serve as the VC of the institution.
The new VC also expressed his profound gratitude to the AG Professionals for floating the reception his honour. ’ ‘
He disclosed that the university under his watch has gained accreditation in all its courses and promised to take the institution to a greater height.
In his address at the reception, the Chairman of AG Professionals, Ambassador Onyebuchi Onyeikegbulem described Prof Kalu as an iconoclastic, humble, workaholic and servant leader.
He commended the Board of Administration, Executive Committee and General Council of Assemblies of God, Nigeria for appointing a role model, , m o t i v a t or pathfinder and visionary leader who operates with unfeigned love.
Amb Onyeikegbulan said it was the sterling qualities of Prof Kalu that informed the first-ever reception and thanksgiving to be organized for anyone in the district.
He urged the new vice chancellor to raise the university to meet international standard
Professor Iche Ukpai Kalu, “who hails from Ohafia, Abia State replaced the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Prof Chart IkechukwuUmechuruba.
Prof. Umechuruba served out his tenure of four years and an extension of one year.
