For involving in dishonourable acts, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu has been asked to quietly resign his position as number one lawmaker in the state and quit from representing Ihitte Uboma state constituency in the state legislature.
In apparent reaction to a recent statement credited to Speaker Uwajumogu, where he claimed to be carrying PDP membership card, the party’s hierarchy in the state has told him to abdicate his office for insincerity unexpected from a public officer of his caliber.
Uwajumogu in a recent interactive session with journalist not only disclosed that People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state wanted him and other PDP lawmakers to fight Governor Rochas Okorocha, but he is sill a card-carrying member of the party.
Reacting to the statement, PDP state publicity secretary, Chief Blyden Amajirionwu disclosed that Uwajumogu deserves to resign his position for having the knack to speak from both sides of the mouth. The PDP spokesman wondered how a lawmaker who was elected under PDP platform would decamp to another party and claims he is still a member of PDP. Uwajumogu is a dishonourable lawmaker pushed by the desire to grab power, hence the decision to play double standard.
According to the party, “Uwajumogu is no longer a PDP member. He cannot dump the party without any justifiable reason to join APGA, because he wants power he joined APGA during inauguration to be Speaker. Now, he wants to be PDP member. Is that not deceit? Is it not disonourable act and should Uwajumogu not resign if he has conscience? He wants to eat his cake and have it”.
On the issue of the party requesting him and other PDP lawmakers in Imo House to fight Governor Okorocha, the party’s publicity secretary stated tat the claim is one of the Speaker’s fairly-tale that exposes his dishonourable acts. “It is a cheap blackmail for the Speaker to make such comments. At what point did PDP discus this issue with him and the so-called PDP lawmakers? PDP had a meeting with all elected lawmakers of PDP extraction before their inauguration. Uwajumogu did not express any fear or speak out on this matter. Rather, the next day, he sold out because he is power-hunger and desirous to grab Imo Assembly speakership position by all means.
Why is he blackmailing PDP now? To pacify his quest for power, he decamped from PDP. He should tell the public why he changed party from PDP to APGA when there is nothing to justify the action. That makes him a dishonourable lawmaker Uwajumogu is telling lies. Nobody in PDP told him anything about Okorocha. He is merely raising false alarm to justify his chase and desire for power. If Okorocha is doing well does he need anybody to fight him? If he is still in PDP, why is the party in minority status in Imo State House of Assembly when the party he decamped to, APGA is now in the majority? Uwajumogu should be sincere. He should resign than play double standard in this issue.
Uwajumogu told newsmen in the interview that he did not resign his PDP membership claiming that he is still a card-carrying member of the party. The Imo Speaker challenged those who said he is no longer PDP member to show his resignation letter.
