The immediate former Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly Rt Hon Goodluck Nana Opiah has opened up, saying that there was only one Speaker of the House in the last dispensation from 2007-20011, and that person is Goodluck Opiah.

Speaking to Newsmen in Owerri on Sunday, Hon Opiah maintained that Hon Amaechi Nwoha who claimed to have impeached him and emerged Speaker, was living a dream, which was never a reality.

The Former Speaker said that Nwoha knows he cannot describe himself as a Former Speaker because what took place a few days before he (Opiah) left office was a nullity as Nwoha was never made Speaker of Imo House of Assembly.

He described the plot then by Amaechi Nwoha and co to remove him from office as a failed project, pointing out that by the time Nwoha stage managed his plot, the Imo parliament had completed the full Legislative calendar for the year, and was preparing for the valedictory ceremony, when the Nwoha sham took place.

Asked to comment on the out-put of the current House led by Rt Hon Ben Uwajumogu, Opiah said he cannot disclose his opinion about the House in Newspapers, pointing that whether the House was doing badly or not, as a Former Legislator, he will approach his colleagues through the right quarters to make his feeling known.

He however said that nobody should criticize the Legislature inNigeria, stressing that the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature is like tat of five fingers of a lepros hand.

“The Legislature cannot function well without the Executive, while the Executive cannot function well too without the Legislature.  Therefore, for the peace and progress of the state, both must work together in harmony” he said.

On the legal battle to reclaim his seat from Hon Luck Chukwu of APGA, Opiah said what Chukwu is doing at the Imo House of Assembly is an act of legal impunity, because he has no right to be there, pointing out that he would not speak further on the matter since the case is still in court.

On Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Former Speaker declared that Imo is a PDP state any day, hinting that the members of PDP in Imo have regretted the mistakes of the last election, maintaining that since then, PDP has won two elections conducted in the state, which is an indication that Imo PDP members are intact.

“Imo is a PDP state, and the party is intact.  The records of results of elections conducted in the state since after the Guber election is an attestation that PDP is intact in Imo” Opiah said.
