Football followers in the state and particularly fans of Heartland Football Club of Owerri have lauded Governor Hope Uzodinma for his position on the duties of the state owned club’s board and that of the General Manager.
This appreciation is coming on the heels of the meeting recently held between the Governor, Heartland FC board members under the leadership of Barr Charles Ezekwem, and the club’s General Manager, Hon Ifeanyi Chukwudi last Monday at the state government house, Owerri were the number one citizen of the state categorically stressed that the board chairman and his members meets periodically adding that the position of the chairman is non executive.
The football stakeholders who also expressed their appreciation to the Governor for reaffirming that the General Manager is fully in charge of the day to day running of the club further thanked the Governor for also dissolving the former management team through the office of the Commissioner for Sports, Youth and Social Development noting that this will indeed afford the GM ample opportunity to select reputable and astute hands into the new management that will propel the club back to glory days and indeed to greater heights.
Some of the adamant supporters of the club who spoke to newsmen last Tuesday at the Old Township Stadium, Owerri shortly after the clubs training session equally thanked the Governor whom they said has shown sagacity and capacity to resolve the ripples of our darling Heartland FC by ensuring that technocrats are brought in to run the affairs of the club instead of mixing it in the hands of politicians whom they observed may not understand the intrigues of football.
Meanwhile, the Heartland FC supporters and stakeholders have also commended the clubs General Manager,Mr Ifeanyi Chukwudi for approving the 6 Team tournament organized by Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu for some clubs based in the state with the view of identifying and selecting talents that can join the Naze Millionaires ahead their preseason programme.
According to reports, teams such as Campos FC, Pakat FC, Amanada FC, Taye FC, Vikings FC and Ekwueme FC will all lock horns against themselves starting from Wednesday October 28, 2020 with the sole aim of identifying talented players from the teams.
This we gathered will afford Heartland technical crew the opportunity of catching raw talents that can help them prosecute the league when it eventually commences.
In some of the games alraedy decided as at the time of this report, Pakat FC played out a goalles draw with Campos FC while AMANDA FC (former state Aiteo Cup champions) got the better of Taye FC 3 – 2.
