Following months of salary arrears owed to medical doctors working in Health facilities in the State, the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA of Nigeria Imo State Chapter have called on the Governor of Imo State senator Hope Uzodinma to use his good office to pay.
Medical personnel working in Imo state Hospitals are grieving over eight months unpaid salaries.
The NMA Chairman in the state Dr Okwara Chidiebere made the pronouncements after the Union’s general meeting at the Secretariat along Port Harcourt road on Sunday.
Speaking, Dr Okwara said that the Union commends the efforts of Governor Hope Uzodinma and the Commissioner for Health Imo state, Dr Mrs Damaris Osunkwo in providing Health care delivery in Imo State.
He noted that they have observed a disconnect from the Health workforce and the Health care delivery system in the state.
“Therefore we urge the governor to immediately implement consolidated medical salary structure CONMESS 2014 with proper placement as on October 1st gift to the Health sector in all state, Health institution, Ministries Department and Agencies”.
Dr Okwara further urge the governor to immediately offset the remuneration /salaries of members at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) from March 2020 to date as on October 1st 2020.
He also called on the attention of the governor to direct the contractors working on the access road to IMSUTH who he said have abandoned the project to return to work to avoid further damage on the road.
Contributing, Dr Chijioke Nzewuihe Chairman Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria MDCAN said that the governor senator Hope Uzodinma should do the needful by offsetting the salaries medical doctors who he said put their lives in danger in other to save lives.
He also noted that they have families and responsibilities to take care of like any other person’s in the society and wonder why their salaries will not be paid for over 8 months now.
The meeting has the members of the Executive of NMA in attendance and they include Dr Okwara Chidiebere Chairman, Dr Dike Victor Vice Chairman, Dr Nwafor Kingsley Secretary, Dr Mrs Anthony Eweputanna Treasure, Dr Edward Una Financial Secretary, Dr Ugoma Ohasamma PRO and Dr Nzewuihe (Chairman MDCAN IMSUTH).
