The chances for Chief Daniel Nwafor-led factional leadership of the Imo State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, spearheading the party’s structure ahead of the Imo North Senatorial bye-election has further been dashed to the wind, following the recognition of Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo Exco.
The Nation’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission, had on the eve of Tuesday wrote to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC of Imo, disown Nwafor faction.
In a letter signed by INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriafan-Anthony, and addressed to the REC with number, INEC/LEG/LM/16/T/48, the Commission asked that only the Nlemigbo APC leadership be recognized, and be allowed to take charge of APC affairs, as far as the Senate bye-election is concerned.
The letter further disclosed that the APC National Caretaker Committee, set up by the NWC authorizes Nlemigbo to oversee the affairs of Imo State chapter of APC, pending the conduct of fresh congresses in the State.
Part of it read, “The Commission is in receipt of the Ruling of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in suit No: FCT/HC/BW/CY/103/2018 – Evan Enwerem vs All Progressives Congress and 2 ors delivered on 16 July, 2020 wherein the Court ordered Mr. Daniel Madueke Nwafor either by himself or any person claiming through him from enforcing or giving effect to the judgement of the Court in FCT/HC/BW/CV/103/2018 delivered on 14th August, 2018 pending the hearing and determination of the appeal filed by the APC.
Against this backdrop, both Nwafor and his Excos are warned against constituting or doing anything tantamount to breach of the Court Order.
It would be recalled that both factions had been at daggers drawn over who controls the leadership of the party.
