Anthony Anyanwu
Leadership crisis has hit Imo State Chapter of the Conference of Nigerian political parties following the election of two parallel chairmen and members.
While the group lead by Dr Christian Chukwu had their election at the CNPP Secretariat at Alaenyi Street, Owerri, the Prince Marshal Anyanwu group had its own at Concorde Hotel, which produced Elder Chinedu Ukadike as chairman.
One of the factional chairmen of the Conference, Dr Christian Chukwu has cautioned APGA government in the state against such actions which portray it as undemocratic.
Speaking to Newsmen in Owerri, Dr Chukwu narrated how APGA through Marshal Okoroafor Anyanwu and Mr Ukadike of the Congress for Democratic change CDC attempted to truncate the election of the CNPP in the state.
He said that while the delegates from the various political parties converged at the CNPP secretariat at Alaenyi for the election, that Marshal Anyanwu and Mr Ukadike conscripted non members of the association to the Concorde Hotel where they held a Kangaroo election.
According to the chairman, “APGA lead government in Imo state that was acclaimed to be democratically elected in 2011 is now causing democratic blunder in the same state where they claimed that they were freely and fairly elected”.
While calling on Governor Rochas Okorocha to caution the APGA state chairman to be mindful of his actions and activities in CNPP. He said that posterity will not forgive APGA if it either by hook or crook erodes the already institutionalized democratic tenants in the state. Adding further that it portrays danger on the intended local government elections in the state if it will hold after all.
Dr Chukwu, who said that his regime will work closely with Governor Okorocha’s administration in its efforts to provide the dividends of democracy to the masses, maintained that the CNPP is a congregation of opposition parties that are against any bad government in the state and supportive to any positive administration.
On his own, another factional chairman of the group Elder Chinedu Ukadike said that his executive will articulate good policies that will move the association forward.
He said that he will dwell more on how to transform the association to enable the political parties produce credible leaders which will go a long way to bringing development and urged both members and opponents to shun acts which are capable of distracting the activities of the association.
