The Majority Leader Imo state House of Assembly & Lawmaker for Ikeduru State Constituency, Hon (Amb) Uche Ogbuagu has revealed the reason behind his commitment towards rapid development of grassroots talents.
The Ikeduru Lawmaker made the disclosure at his Akabi country home, Ikeduru LGA during the official presentation of a Meritorious Award of Excellence for his developmental strides in the sports sector by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Imo state chapter stating that his growing up was not a rosy one.
“I remember when one of the Uncles back then in Aba will take me to NTA Aba for drama rehearsals owing to the talent they spotted in me”, Amb Ogbuagu noted.
“Am inspired to create opportunities for the young talented ones so they can also discover their future.
He further said the Iho Stadium he rebuilt into a modern one with state of the art facilities was one of his campaign promises adding that the Ikeduru Unity cup also aims at discovering more stars like the class of 94 Super Eagles who also played a novelty match during the official opening of the stadium back in December among many other constituency projects commissioned during the weekend as part of activities to also mark his 48 year birthday.
The Imo House of Assembly Majority Leader who was delighted with SWAN’s recognition also as a Patron of the organization with his name inducted into the hale of fame for his contributions towards sports and youth development averred that he was spurred to do all he is doing by his humble and poor background before he made it in life through God’s given talent hence his vow to help the young ones to also become somebody by creating for them that enabling environment to also excel.
He however promised to work closely with the body at the state towards taking them to greater heights.
Speaking earlier before presenting the merit award, the Imo state chairman of SWAN, Mr Iheanyi Emesonwu and SWAN National Financial Secretary, Orji Sampson extolled the lawmaker for his proactive nature in driving grassroots sport development in his area urging him not to relent.
They stated that Amb Ogbuagu was selected among other respectable Imolites who over time have coninued to use their individual reasources to help in dveloping sports in the state and the nation at large.
The occassion was originally held last year December 20, 2019 at Rock View Hotel.
