If the confession of a paraded suspect for child trafficking is anything to go by, Imo state may certainly top the chart for child selling in the federation.
This is not the first time, children are discovered to be trafficked from various parts of the country to be sold in Imo.
One of the principal suspects, Victoria Joseph 28yrs, who incidentally is an aunt to the victim, her 2yrs old nephew, informed newsmen when queried that, she stole the boy from his grandmother.
She further informed that, the boy’s mother was her relative and she took advantage of the relationship to steal him, knowing she could be trusted with the child.
Victoria who confessed that it is not her first, revealed that, she and her accomplice were in Imo state to look for buyer for the boy.
Parading the two suspects, Victoria Joseph 28yrs and Joy Ugorji 33yrs at the Imo state Police command recently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Isaac Akinmoyede informed while addressing newsmen that, they stole the child from Kakuano Rivers state to be sold in Imo, but were intercepted by operatives of the Anti- Vice Unit of the command.
Part of the release reads, “On 30th May, 2020, operatives of the Anti-Vice Unit of the Command while on stop and search duty, intercepted the above named suspects with a boy of about two (2) years and on interrogation, they confessed that they stole the child at Kakuano LGA, Rivers State and brought him for sale.”
“The boy has been safely kept in the motherless babies’ home while effort is being made to locate the parents while investigation is ongoing.”
“The Command therefore enjoin members of the public whose child was stolen or who knows anyone that has lost his child recently to contact Imo State Police control room or the Police Public Relations Officer.”
