Age Falsification Saga: Tension In Imo Judiciary As Gang-Up Against Acting Chief Judge Heightens


The Judiciary in Imo State is boiling over issues related to the claims of the Acting Chief Judge of the State, Hon Justice Ijeoma Agugua.
Trumpeta learnt that since the retirement of Hon Justice Paschal Nnadi crisis has erupted in the Ministry of Justice over replacement battle.
The selection of Justice Agugua has sparked off a row leading to allegations against the top most jurist in the state who is the first woman to hold the elevated position.
It was gathered that some forces who have formed a cabal are not comfortable with the office she is occupying hence the establishment of several cases against her in court.
From what Trumpeta learnt, the subject of discussion in every office at the ministry of justice and state judiciary is about the raging war targeted at the removal and consequent moves to stop the confirmation of Agugua as substantive CJ of Imo State.
The uproar arises from a court case instituted by Hon Justin Brown Amadi against the Acting Chief Judge, Agugua. Amadi had also sent a petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Chairman, National Judicial Council over alleged perjury, falsification of Age and False claim of the date of attending primary school by justice Ijeoma. O. Agugua who was appointed on March 13, 2020 following the retirement of Nnadi on March 12, 2020.
The petitioner quoted and made public some documents to showcase that she changed her date of birth from 1959 to 1960.
According to what Trumpeta obtained from the petitioner, what is in her testimonial is 1959 while an affidavit sworn for Age Declaration in 2019 read 1960.
Trumpeta further learnt that the new Chief Judge may have become a victim of attack over certain measures she took immediately after being sworn into Acting Capacity.
She was accused of engaging in some unjust transfers which affected Magistrates and Judges in the State Judiciary.
A visit to the affected places by our reporter showed that Judiciary workers, Judges and Magistrates are divided on this matter.
