A bigwig of the All Progressive Congress, APC in the State, ChiefBona Nwoke Dike, has doffed hat for Governor Hope Uzodinma and the Imo State House of Assembly for repealing what he described as obnoxious pension bill for past governors and speakers in the State.
The Ngor-Okpala born administrator and politician, in a chat with newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, commended the wisdom and courage of the governor in presenting and assenting to the repeal, adding. “I am impressed at his decision. It is noteworthy that the present governor will benefit from the VIP pension, scheme, but he abolished it for the greater interest of the state”.
He is the first governor to have done this in the whole of South East, South South and South West. So, I expect other Imolites to join me in congratulating and encouraging the governor to carry out policies that will positively impact on the lives of our people.
The strong man of APC, who pointed out that it was the first time he was congratulating the governor for his achievement so far in office, maintained that his decision was a brilliant and bold step, considering the paucity of finds, which he said is confronting the state.
According to him, “Imo State would need about one billion five hundred million Naira (N1.5b) yearly to service the pensions of these former governors and speakers, and with the recent development, he would save at least ten billion Naira (N10b) in four years, which can be utilized to provide small scale industries that could create employment to our teeming youths”.
He enjoined the governor not be afraid in implementing policies he whole-heartedly believes will add value to Imo peoples’ lives, stressing that he has the opportunity to leave his foot in the sands of time with such legacies.
