With all due respect, we have received your letter of May 20, 2020, wherein you alleged that TRUMPETA maligned your client, Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume.
However, having read the said edition of Thursday May 14, 2020 Vol.10 No 93 in Trumpeta Newspaper with caption “Imo APC Boils, Araraume Corners Assembly Lawmakers” we found nothing defamatory other than a political story, which to many political minds, rather extolled Araraume’s political strength in Imo State, as it also kept him on the front burner of if Imo discourse, even as most readers cherished that story positively, based on our feedback mechanism. On “The Insinuation, Serial Governorship candidate was the climax of the defamatory publication” however, when we checked the Dictionary, it gave the meaning of “Serial” as “Having to do with or Arranged in a series. And “Series” said “A number of things that follow one after the other or connected one after the other”.
As a respectful Newspaper made up of informed and experienced Journalists, it is on record that our Revered Senator has contested for Imo Governorship election since 2007, till 2019, which makes it “Series” or Serial”. Therefore it was not meant to denigrate his person.
However, since mentioning the name of your client in Trumpeta Newspaper was deemed defamatory, we hereby withdraw the statement and from hence forth may desist completely from mentioning your client’s names in our publications, as we may not know the one that may hurt his feelings and seen as Defamatory.
Our regrets.
Signed
Editor
