Member representing Aboh Mbaise / Ngor Okpala Federal constituency, Hon Bede Eke has condemned the planned relocation of College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Imo state University campus, Aboh – Ngor Okpala by the state government.
Reacting to the resolution of the Imo state House of Assembly to amend the law establishing the institution, the federal lawmaker while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja at the weekend, described the decision of the state legislators as unwarranted and an act of vendetta against the people from the area.
The institution was sited in Aboh-Ngor Okpala by the predecessor of the incumbent governor having the legislative backing of the state House of Assembly, amending the law that established the institution as well as relocating same was infamous and should not see the light of the day, Eke posited.
“The state government had incurred huge resources by erecting structures and other educational facilities in the campus for smooth take off, a reverse in that direction by way of relocation amounts to waste of resources and misuse of tax payer’s money.
Eke commended member representing Ezinihitte state constituency, Hon Anyadike Nwosu for declining by not appending his signature to what he described as ” Vendetta ” bill against the people of Mbaise and Ngor Okpala while advising the state legislators not to allow themselves to be used by the executive to get back at perceived political rivals in the state.
Continuing, he called on critical stakeholders in the state to put aside political party color and speak against the planned relocation.
The proposed move by the Imo State government to relocate the university to Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo in Ohaji Egbema LGA of Imo State is a contradiction of the government’s mantra of shared prosperity and claim of continuity.
On behalf of the good people of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, I call on Governor Hope Uzodimma to halt the repressive, unpopular and provocative relocation of Imo State College of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences from Aboh/Ngor-Okpala to Umuagwo.
We all spoke and condemned the relocation of Imo state University from Owerri to Ogboko during the administration of Sen Rochas Okorocha and the agenda was defeated”, this one will also go same if we speak in one accord”.
Also, he promised to reach out to leaders from the area to fashion out ways to ensure that the relocation and amendment of the law establishing the institution fails.
