Fear of the unknown and uncertainty is said to be pervading stakeholders in the present administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha as operatives of the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission, EFCC, beam their searchlights on financial dealings of the Imo State Government.
Following the recent arrest and subsequent interrogation of some of the state government officials by the anti-graft body, last week in Abuja, the state government is reportedly fine-tuning all financial dealings with a view to correct all anomalies and ensure that due process was followed in execution of all projects.
Imo Trumpeta reliably gathered that the drilling of the chairman of ISOPADEC, state Finance Commissioner, and a SA on Due Process by EFCC in Abuja and the exposure made by their interrogation may have informed the state Governor to summon a meeting for all heads of government ministries, agencies and parasatals in the state. The purpose of the meeting is to ensure that the affected officials tidy their financial records and documents with regards to award of contracts.
Apart from arranging their financial operations, the heads of government ministries, agencies and parasatals are also expected to have authentic records of all transactions undertaken by their establishment since the present government came into power June last year.
The invitation of the SA Due Process by the EFCC is said to be a worrisome development to the Rescue Mission government prompting those in charge to rally round and tidy some of the contracts awarded in the state. The heads are expected to study their records to avoid further embarrassments and invasion from anti-corruption bodies in the state in the future.
