Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Collins Chiji has been under burning furnace over his dress code, amongst which was his face cap with a bold inscription, “Chiji 4 Hope”.
Chiji was spotted during the week while distributing relief materials to his Isiala Mbano constituents as a way of containing the Covid-19 pandemic, putting on a Senator wear and boldly inscripted face cap “Chiji 4 Hope”.
Since then, the media, especially the blogosphere have been awash with the news.
The Speaker was however presented in a bad light with worrying questions bordering on his conduct as a leader of an arm of government.
To many, Chiji’s new love for governor Hope Uzodinma is seen as a shame which is taken too far.
As the number three citizen in Imo State and leader of the parliament, it is unworthy for a person under his position to sing praises for either the Executive or Judiciary.
Trumpeta correspondent who monitored the online posts to this regard described the Speaker’s new found love for caps with governor’s name imprinted on it as height of sycophancy and aberration to the powers of the legislature.
In a related development, many alleged that Collins Chiji is doing anything possible to retain his position, since there are uncertainties that governor Hope Uzodinma may have still be uncomfortable working with him.
Interestingly, again, a reference was made by one Marcus that it is unheard of that either President of the Senate or the Speaker of House of Representatives could wear “Buhari” as an insignia anywhere they go, especially when it was not during electioneering period.
Against this backdrop of the development, many Imolites that commented tagged Speaker Chiji as a slap and disgrace to Imo legislature, rather than upholding strictness in the activities of the House of Assembly which goes a long way in strengthening good governance.
